Description | The aim of this thesis is to summarize the basic knowledge about amenable groups, prove their properties, give examples and applications in ergodic theory or probability. The concept of amenable group was developed in 1929 by John von Neumann. Amenable groups form a bridge between abstract algebra and analysis and thus allow the use of analytic tools in algebra and vice versa. PATERSON, Alan L. T. Amenability.
